My Role :
My role in this project was the implimentation of Gameplay Mechanics and the Sound Design. I therefore spent most of my time on Unity scripting the mechanics and FMod creating the sound design.
Recap :
Genre : 2D shooter
Platform : Windows 10
Softwares : Unity, FMod
Team : Romain Becht, Stephane Villagordo, Guillaume Houard, Alexander McVeigh
Time to develop: 3  days
Description :
Sablier is an 2D action game inspired by the Gameplay of Enter The Gungeon. The player must destroy waves of enemy robots whilst collecting a valuable ressource that is used to upgrade the avatar and save humanity. This project was made for the Perpignan Game Jam and it took the team 48 hours to create

Theme :
The theme of the Game Jam was "Don" meaning Gift or Offering in English. We used this theme to Design the pacing and narration of our project.

We wanted to bring a dilemma through the choices the player must make in between action scenes. The player would have to chose whether he uses the resource to upgrade his avatar or to sustain Humanity. This choice becomes harder as the Game progresses since the levels become more difficult so the avatar must be stronger, but if Humanity dies the player gets a Game Over and must restart.

Humanity is represented by a "Population Counter" that slowly reduces in amount with Time. If that counter reaches 0 the player will have to restart the game from the beginning.
Gameplay :
The player controls an avatar that is able to move in eight directions using "WASD" on the keyboard. He also wields a rifle that can aim with the help of the mouse and, by clicking the left mouse button, shoot in the direction in which the avatar is aiming. Using the Space bar, he is able to Dash leaving him invulnerable to damage for a short periode of time.

The goal of each level is to defeat all enemies on the map and reach the Bonfire. The overall goal of the game is to find a great source of Energy to keep Humanity alive for a while.

In between levels, the player is able to upgrade his avatar. He is able to upgrade the speed, the shooting rate, the dash distance, the health, the strength of his bullets and much more in exchange for Energy. They must use the energy wisely or humanity will surely perish.
Narration :
"In a world at the constant mercy of devastating sandstorms, the few survivors of the human race have only managed to survive thanks to machinery, allowing them to breathe and forage for energy. Faced with such a hostile environment, in which new species of creatures and animals have emerged, the last remaining peoples must place their faith within the will and determination of their Hunter, the only man who can ensure their survival. Who knows the trials and hardships that await this Hunter in his fight for humanity?

You are the last remaining hope of survival in a hostile world. Hunt, survive, and ensure the continuity of your peoples in a race against time."
Sound Design :
The sound design of Sablier is devided into 4 layers. The first is the actions of the avatar. Everytime the player clicks an input a sound is played to give feedback to the action. The second is the impact effects and the enemies. Both of these layers have an 8 bit style to them, meaning a very harsh, gritty sound to contrast with the next two layers.
The third layer is the music. The music is there to give a feeling of dynamism and fury during the action and a feeling of calm during the choice menu. It therefore reflects of the actions of the player.
The last layer is the ambiant sounds that are more realistic for the immersion of the player.
