Problem: Many women with afro hair tend to be discouraged into not dying their hair, because of stereotypes As well as their hair type being more delicate, which means it can’t stand the harshness of many hair dyes. Representation in the current hair dying market is also overwhelmingly white, I wasn’t able to find hair dyes aimed for afro hair.  Which highlights how important it is to have this brand.

Solution: I created a slick and professionally designed hair dye brand targeted towards black women’s natural hair, this brand is meant to encourage black women to be more adventurous in colouring their hair.
The main aesthetic for this brand was inspired by photographs of black women in colourful settings. The juxtaposition of their dark skin with the bright colours makes for striking imagery.
There is an art to how people style their hair, that’s why I have chosen to dedicate each dye colour to a black female artist, who have a signature colour in their work. The Arts is just another area black women are not seen as much as they should. My aim is to give them the spotlight they deserve, whilst their unique colour helps black women to look bolder and more fabulous.
