TIME ROLLING CLOCK

TAPE MADE WALL CLOCK

Theory and Practice of Product Design

The theme of the project was the design of a new product using a tape-like thing.
Time is like an infinite tape that rolls out meanwhile events happen. Starting from this statement, I decided to design a small wall clock, trying to express the time passing by in a playful way.
I wanted to make a very simple shape, so I rolled two different fabric tapes to create the minute and hour hands. When the clock hands turn, it is like if time is “rolling out” and passing by. It is meant to be used in a small room, for example on the wall in front of a desk, or in a studio.

I chose two simple and strong colors to mark the difference between the hour and the minute hand. Moreover, I decided to use a thick fabric tape to show clearly the material used for the clock. The dimensions of the hands are aobviously different: the hour hand has a bigger diameter and a shorter pointer. The base of the clock is a white cirlce, smaller than the hands but bigger than the circles, that covers the clock mechanism.
