La Perle (The Pearl) is a bi-annual magazine that devotes each issue to a city seen through the eyes of local merchants. It traces the history of the city to discover their experiences, their visions and their personal attachment, in the form of photographs and interviews. The goal is to discover a city from the inside, through the memories and stories that traders tell us.
They rub shoulders with their regulars, locals, but also tourists.

La Perle is not just a magazine.
It is also a real brand, using its content to create a unique graphic universe for each city. The Pearl is a metaphor, because each merchant contains something precious, and comes together to form the necklace that is the city.
For the first issue, Marseille is in the spotlight. A city rich in diversity, surprising and endearing.
The magazine is there to bring you closer to the craftsman and make you want to meet him / her directly in his shop.
They are there to inspire us and most of the time they are hidden in this huge industrial world.

124 pages

Easy to carry while traveling, can also be read at home.

The target of La Perle is anyone interested in handmade items and looking for them when they come to visit a new place or in their own city. It ranges from the student to the older curious citizens. Everyone is looking for their pearl.

The products and the concept store
Each artisan chose a pearl from his shop and explained why. It could be a personal reason, a most successful product, or because of the history of the product or its components. The user can only read these texts online, it is not in the magazine. Products can be purchased from anywhere in the world on the ephemeral La Perle e-shop and allow everyone to discover the know-how of a city.

The duration of the concept store
The concept store is only open for one semester and closes definitively when the next issue of the magazine comes out to make way for the new pearls of the next issue. The products can still be found in physical stores.

The logo is changed. An * has been added, because the * in the magazine are linked to each article on the site.
Promotion and discovery
The magazine has an Instagram account where people can share their favorite craftsman from their city with a text that features them. The #laperle must be used to be reposted by La Perle. This Instagram account is also sponsored by accounts that match the target profile. The Instagram account is also there to promote the online concept store. The goal is to create a community of craft enthusiasts who can tell their friends and family about La Perle.

Thank you!

I chose Marseille because like every people I had a lot of clichés about this city before moving near it. Every time I visited Marseille since, my degree of love for this city raised and raised by discovering all those little gems that even citizens don't know about. They need to be highlighted! :)

Don't hesitate to leave a comment to tell me what you think, this project is my master Diploma project so everything is a prototype. I realized it from May until September 2020. I hope this project will become real one day by working with professional  journalists/writers and other photographers/graphic designers.
Here is a photo of my jury scenography at school and a little trailer.
