LIBRARY LITE: EXOSKELETAL
PART 2

WHEN A BUILDING LOSES WEIGHT...
The proposal features a cable masts and spaceframe to reduce the monolithic visual and physical weight of the original library.  A combination of diagrid frame and cable system would allow for distribution of weight efficiently, while not resulting in an unclear monolith. Vertical masts carry the load to the ground, braced every other bay. Tensioned cables at the roof take on reduced load capacity of the frame, also minimizing required depth of cantilevered floor depth that previously relied on suspension from the roof and deep piers.

The metal subframe provides support for glazing and adds rigidity and required redundancy to the masts. Louvres  (with varying patterns to dissolve the monolithic elevation and adding textured lightness)  which previously required thick heavy metal to make long spans are reduced to lightweight rigid triangle panels that occupy the interstitial space between the masts and exterior cables.
