Typeface and Editorial
Summary of project:
This project aims to celebrate the power of story, through an original typeface. This typeface must represent a character from a film or novel, drawing on experimentation, expressiveness and the unique personality of the character. An emphasis is placed on media exploration and image making, with the aim of presenting it all in an editorial layout which uses the typeface in a visually appealing way to show an informative narrative.

The final deliverables are as follows:
Compiled process work
1x A3 poster of typeface
1x Final editorial layout

Design strategy:
The design strategy follows the narrative and characteristics of the character Hades, from the Disney film ‘Hercules’, which is used to inspire the main deadly growth theme of a font constructed out of bricks, dead plant material and charcoal. This font plays on the relationship between life and death, and how both can be equally good and bad at the same time. As seen in this font, the vines (a living entity), slowly crushes and destroys the solid, structured state of the bricks, hence the font name, ‘a slow death by the hands of the living’.
