Visual Texture vs. Tactile Texture

Visual vs. Tactile Texture; Foundation Design 2D

We were asked to demonstrate texture in two different ways.
The image of the cat demonstrates visual texture, which is an illusion of texture created on a flat surface. You can see this most present within the individual hairs of the cat.

Tactile texture, shown in the portrait, is texture created by adding 3D elements that describe texture in a way that can be touched and felt. In this case, I used yarn and pearls to describe the texture of the mask in this tactile way.
