The above image was provided by our client as the inspiration of what she would like to accomplish with this built in library. The unit would match the adjacent trim in her home, which was 100 years old, and would have glass shelves and concealed lighting to illuminate the contents of the shelves. Finally, she wanted to mount two antique sconces from Turkey on the left and right center mullions of the unit.
We then had our interior design partner, Meghan Dobish, create a simple layout sketch of the library. These dimensions were the guidelines for the overall layout of distance between shelves and quantity of shelves. We found a material match of the existing wood trim, by using quarter sawn white oak, and went through several stain samples until getting the tone of the finish just right. It was a perfect match.
You would think that this library piece was an original feature of the house, from back in 1910...
