HORIZONTAL MOTIONS
This is the process of the design of İzmir Gediz Delta and Mavişehir coastal areas by considering climate change. The effects of global climate change on both nature and people and their consequences can be clearly observed recently. These impacts at different scales both in Turkey and in İzmir, and the results are seen dramatically. Sea level rise and excessive rainfall, overheating, and floods threaten the sensitive zone Gediz Delta which is under protection by RAMSAR wetlands protection, Natural protected area, Wildlife protection area, Conservation status of natural areas, and the city with surrounding. Gediz Delta is threatened by many problems because of being located inside the urban boundaries, the rapid development of the construction area, the industrial zone in the delta and the pollution of the river, and require a lot of water for agriculture. When all this is combined with climate change, it becomes clear what the natural area and the different ecosystems it contains (includes freshwater lakes, lagoons, salty meadows, mud flats, reeds which provide hundreds of living spaces) are in difficult conditions such as the danger of some living things, the deterioration of ecological balance, the corruption of the natural landscape, the degradation of flora & fauna sensitivity. When all these are taken into consideration, this project is aimed to progress on the horizontal axis, to naturalize the river section and to design a green buffer zone to the coastline and to ensure its continuity along the coast. In addition, Gediz Delta's protection opportunities are increased but people are also asked to experience this area with minimum impact.
