The Solebay Commission
During July of 2020, while I was furloughed thanks to the 'Rona I wanted to revisit Syzmon Kubicki's Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer model to update it so I could use Glen Cordle's DLS and Targa add on models. When I produced The Isleworth Commission I was working to quite a tight timescale in order to get the studio scene modelled and everything rendered out in 4K, so I had not properly prepped the model after importing it to 3ds Max.

Most of the changes meant clearing the existing UVW mapping as it was somehow causing conflicts with Corona's Triplanar map for metallic paint flakes and applying XForm resets to every part so that procedural maps scaled correctly with my existing & updated materials.

Design wise I wanted to try a more metallic paint this time with a somewhat more extravagant interior while trying to keep it as close as possible to Singer's style. I decided to base the scheme on my favourite Ale - Broadside by Adnams Brewery.
I decided to use an HDRI & backplate set from CTC Creative Studio. While the location is not on the Angeles Crest where Singer Porsches are usually photographed, the set is still located in Southern California at a similar golden hour-ish time with the sun low on the horizon. This also meant for some shots only the HDRI lighting was required and others I could mix in a Corona Sun without having to adjust the HDRI inside photoshop.
I also wanted to experiment with creating compositions similar to those from Drew Phillips, who photographs most of the Singer Commissions. This meant blending the HDRI map with a textured ground plane. I used one of Alex Bowen's 8K asphalt textures that was a close match to the asphalt in the HDRI.
Looking back at the project now, 9 months later there are a number of mistakes I intend to correct for further projects. The bodywork paint needs to have an increased diffuse element included for the base coat. I also need to switch other painted elements to a Corona Layered material and add UVW randomiser nodes for materials that use maps for surface imperfections. There is also a scaling issue with a number of the renders. I scaled the car to real world sizes based on the road width, however at the time I felt the car looked somewhat too small and so scaled it up. Having seen some reference images from CTC Creative Studio the car does look too large.
