Traveling Music Book

The Traveling Music Book is based on the old traditional past time of making people or friends mixed CD’s. Mixed CD’s are one of the biggest forms of disposable art. This idea that you can communicate a message to someone through use of a specific playlist. The arrangement of tracks creates a new meaning pulling it away from it’s original album. Books are made with old clothing for the CD pockets and swede for the pages. The covers are middle school textbooks. I used these to give off this public school vibe. Making someone a mixed CD is an adolescent tradition in public schools.  I based the cover designs off the fact that mixed CD titles are always hand written. I wanted to keep the covers playful looking, to allow people to feel a personal connection, as if they could have made something like it themselves when they were younger. This is the same reason I used old clothing to make the pockets of the book. So the viewer feels a sense of nostalgia. That maybe one of the shirts reminds them of something that they might have worn.
