Die Qualle
Central Yacht Port for Gdansk Munincipality - Competition

Die Qualle translated from german means jellyfish, the oldest multi-organ animal on Earth. Most of its species are inhabiting coastal zones all around the world. Die Qualle has a congenial structure to jellies in terms of symmetrical umbrella-shaped anatomy, with the most important organs in the centre of its mass, as well as 16 piers, as a multiplicity of 4 oral arms.
The harbour has a capacity of 700 boats ranging from 10m up to 35-40m long Superyachts, making Gdansk, a former member of the Hanseatic League, free city-state, again the cultural and economic bridge between European nations. The name for the project was given not only by analysing sea life but also at looking back into the vivid history of the municipality. It is important to highlight the connection Gdansk/Danzig had and still have with the Federal Republic of Germany, as one of the oldest, as well as the longest German-speaking cities in today Poland.
