Where the sound lives

"Media Work” approached me with an interesting project. The task was to create a video about “Sound”. I decided to focus on how sound works inside the speakers. Standard speaker has three main components: wooden cabinet, voice coil and magnets. These style frames are my interpretation of these materials.

WOOD / CABINET

"Speakers are typically housed in a speaker enclosure or speaker cabinet which is often a rectangular box made of wood. The enclosure's materials and design play an important role in the quality of the sound. The enclosure generally must be as stiff and non-resonant as practically possible. Where high fidelity reproduction of sound is required, multiple loudspeaker transducers are often mounted in the same enclosure, each reproducing a part of the audible frequency range"

BRASS / VOICE COIL

"A voice coil (consisting of a former, collar, and winding) is the coil of wire attached to the apex of a loudspeaker cone. It provides the motive force to the cone by the reaction of a magnetic field to the current passing through it"

MAGNETIC FIELD

"When an electrical signal is applied to the voice coil, a magnetic field is created by the electric current in the voice coil, making it a variable electromagnet. The coil and the driver's magnetic system interact, generating a mechanical force that causes the coil to move back and forth, accelerating and reproducing sound under the control of the applied electrical signal coming from the amplifier"
