assignment: porcelain
The studio deals with product design across a broad range—from toothbrushes to transportation, focusing on series production. The aim is to adopt the procedures necessary for designing any product. Recognize your strengths in the design stages, improve on them and increase your professional self-esteem. We will teach you how to think about products, look for shortcomings, then improve their benefits and refine the product to make it competitive. You will get information about the materials, technologies and marketing strategies that are a necessary part of a designer’s expertise and the indispensable presentation skills for the design process. PORCELAIN – lamp holder (can be expanded into lighting fixture or repeating unit)

jury:
The porcelain lighting solutions from design studio Streit – Polák captivated us. The exhibition was so comprehensive that we initially intended to nominate only works from this studio. The uniform studio task and prescribed product material made it seem as if the works were the creation of one or two authors. The differences, however, became apparent in more detailed exploration and discovery of the sources of inspiration. Most of the lamps were only in white colour, which was unfortunate because porcelain allows the use of a whole range colours, decorations, textures and exploration and experimentation with surfaces. It was clear though that the students had focused more on mastering new technology and pure design than finding non-traditional positions. Furthermore, it is difficult for a newcomer to express themselves with porcelain when they devote so much of the design process to designing the shape that the manufacturing process allows. Despite this, the entire jury was overwhelmed by the number of good quality and experimental lighting fixtures. The positive impression of well-executed work boosted the pleasance of the studio’s exhibit.
As the last phase of the moon
NOV is something between nothing and everything.
It is a frame and an image in the same time.
It is a symbol of a new perspective,
just like a moonlight spreading through the darkness.
