Lee Stafford Animations (2004–2005)

Introduction/Top-card Animation (2004)
Lee Stafford Animations (2004–2005)
To compliment videos of Lee Stafford introducing and demonstrating his products, I produced animations for both title and the end-cards, and wanted to bring Pure by Design’s Staffordshire Bull Terrier branding design to life.

Andy Byrne provided the Staffordshire Bull Terrier for these animations, Spike. The only camera I had available at the time was the FujiFilm FinePix 6900Z; additionally my inexperience meant that I didn’t lock the camera off—instead using it handheld and changing focus, causing me quite large problems in rotoscoping.

Further Use
Although the animations were originally developed as top and tail cards for onsite videos, the client’s regard for the result led to my production of a randomised rolling screensaver for the brand, and it’s members use.

Home Shopping Network US (HSN)
For the Lee Stafford brands’ launch on the Home Shopping Network, the animations were revised for the brand’s promotion. A figure I was provided at the time was an audience across the launch-period of approximately ten million people saw the animations.

Revisions for 2005
In 2005, the Lee Stafford brand launched their first subsidiary brand, RU Taking Protection? for which an alternative animation was required. Additionally the previous years animation was reviewed to slightly reduce its runtime.
Revised Introduction/Top-card Animation (2005). The revision reduced the length of the animation by almost 10s.
Credits
The Lee Stafford branding was created by Pure By Design, and the brand extension RU Taking Protection by SWAG Design. Spike, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier model appeared thanks to Andy Byrne.

The RU Taking Protection brand uses the Folio type-family by K. Bauer and W. Baum (1957). and the Lee Stafford brands type family is Fruitger, by A. Frutiger (1976). The animations also use the Lee Stafford Script typeface for which I am responsible.
