The Wooden Hanok Doll / Wood Turning

The Hanok Doll
Inspired by Jangseung, korean totem poles placed at the edges of villages to dispel evil spirits while serving as a boundary marker, a new life and identity is given to the wooden doll with a contemporaneous interpretation.  While retaining the essence of the jangseung with its expressions and costumes, the incorporation of the brass inlays ornate the traditionally muted jangseungs, bringing new significance to achieve the harmony between the old and the new.

The contemporaneous rendition of the jangseung onto the doll also aim to transform tradition into modern, allowing the new generation jangseung to easily infuse into modern households without appearing to be too auspicious and conspicuous in presence, disturbing the harmony and mood of the house.
