Connected sensor for foot brace compliance
Designing a sensor to track user compliance
Clubfoot is one of the most common birth defects in the world, causing one or both feet to turn inward and upward in 1 in every 800 children. An effective tool for treating clubfoot is the consistent use of a foot abduction brace, however it is difficult to monitor compliance in patients.
Team designed a low-cost embedded sensor which can be added to MiracleFeet’s existing range of foot braces, to help clinicians and caregivers ensure children receive the care they need.

The braces come in a range of sizes to be suitable for different age groups, therefore it was clear we needed a monitoring solution that was compatible with all sizes of the brace. It also needed to be low-cost and able to store several months of data if the user does not have access to a suitable mobile device.

It is great news to hear that there is a sensor option that is simple, cost-effective and can be done within the current brace design.
