The masks made of natural pigments, the clothes all cotton, hues and colors that are used to define your origin and your status. Color is India. It is a celebration of Life. Living.
The harsher the climate, the drier the weather, the dustier the plains, the more vivid the colors that India adorns on its people, its performers and its vast selection of Gods.
Much as the European mainstream photography may not like color and prefer an eclectic black and white, but color is the definition of India. It is a pleasure and a privilage to shoot in color. Contrary to what they will teach you, composition of color is harder and more demanding as a photographer then a black and white picture is. These are myths built by the early photographers who would prefer black and white as it is a medium that forgives blown highlights and darks with no details. In color, the inconsistencies show up.
So here is to color and here is to India.
