AgroShare - Community Farming

AgroShare

May 2020: During the Covid-19 India I came across a news  that how internet usage is increasing by almost 100% (based on Business standard article)in rural areas.
Which is clear that rural Indian people are getting aware of the technology and willing to connect with world.
This reminded me of one of my projects almost 6 months back I took and thought of documenting the whole case study.

Problem Statment:
Farmers has been large part of Indian economy but cutting edge technological approach is yet to be adapted. Design a product which helps farmers in whole farming process with digital transparency.

User Research:

User interview:

Our team reached out to the farmers in their regions and took the personal interviews of them. We documented  the whole process from harvesting to crop selling in the market and by collecting data of around 20 farmers we were able to identify their “pain points” as well as webogrnphic, demographic and geographic profile.

Pain Points:

Many daily wage workers were facing issues as less pay or monopoly of local worker organisations, other side small farmers tend to get into vicious cycle of high interest loans as lack of awareness about the government schemes and  local money lenders unreasonable interest rates. After the crops have been cut the mid agents take huge amount of commission to sell those in market yards. In the conclusion there are four pain points found from the research.
Persona:

The interviews led me to four to five different types of personas. There were several types of farmers with different needs, issues and technological knowledge. Some of the personas were edge cases too. So to make it a ground level, I derived one most common persona. We will call him Ramu.
Product draft:

Ideation:
A community adapted to local needs: Local community understands the need of people better and can respond much faster intime
Simpler Colaterlar Schemes: Bridging the gaps between finance and colaterales with zero waiting time
Community benefits: Eliminates problems of fragmented land and stabilizes requirements across the community

Product Principles:
Distributed governance: Equal rights to every participant
Community support: Community fund support in times of need
Everything digital: Bring all the data to the internet from paper
Supply discovery: Crop discovery and supply become more transparent
Digital safety: Comes as an added benefit of using blockchain

Workflow:

1) Signup:  Aadhar Card , Mobile Number , Name , Age , Asset Details , Address
2) Password:  Login - Aadhar Card/Mobile Number and Password
3) Forget Password: - Aadhar and Phone Number (Both should be taken for security Purposes)
4) Community Joining: A list of communities already present in the nearby locations should be displayed out of which one can put a request in which community to join and then if the community manager approves the request , he will be able to join the community (after KYC verification).
Invest direct cash,Invest assets or Join as a volunteer/labour:  He/she will be notified about the tasks that will be required in all the fields and upon successful completion of the task he will get the reward of the task . The community manager looks into the completion of the task. 3. See profits : After the crops are sold to the market profits are distributed according to the shares.
5) The app will have,
     a. Task List: List of tasks added by admins for farmer users
     b. Community List: List of communities the farmer has joined, Which will post tasks.
     c. Wallet: Earnings/ Expenditures will be digitally transformed to farmers account
     d. Shares: Farmer can hold shares for the community or he can sell his own land                                 shares.

Information Architecture
Visual Design:

1) Primary Colour:  Green is the first colour comes in picture while working with Agriculture based app. I have chosen a darker shade of green in order to maintain contrast with white.
2) Typography: Noto sans has been chosen as it has large area for Indian native language.

Future Scope:
This app can be a one step solution for farmer. We will be adding voice assistance, E learning and E loan platform.
