Supermarket products, especially canned products tend to be an easy target for global petty theft. These kind of robbery represents big losses for brands and retail companies.
We were asked to design a low cost, single piece mechanism that can tackle this problem.
The can lock consists of a single biodegradable plastic piece with an accelerating decomposition additive.
A plastic hinged lock is fitted with a proximity sensor in order to track the piece inside the store.
The shape of the piece helps the user place the fingers on both sides in order to fold and pull the can tab to be able to open the products.
The lock fits most can tabs available in the market on a wide range of products.
The size of the piece doesn’t affect stackability or any other packaging process.
