Cantina Mercatto
Cantina is one of the latest ventures in a series of successful restaurants launched by the Mercatto Hospitality group. Located at Wellington and Yonge streets, Cantina follows the blueprint of the Mercatto brand serving authentic, classic Italian fare to the surrounding community with a distinctly designed space. Cantina reinvents the underground wine cellar, taking it into a bright, open atmosphere inspired by sprawling vineyards and coastal Italian resorts.
The custom designed lettering for the wordmark was inspired by modernist Italian stencil faces. We created an address seal to be hand-embossed on menu pages, adding texture and tactility. To pay homage to classic Italian wine and the restaurant’s proximity to dog-friendly Berczy Park, we used a mischievous rooster and dog on the coasters.
