The Spring Is So Short Here

A design I made for a silkscreen competition.
The subject was "The Spring Is So Short Here", which drew me straight to the fact that Israel doesn't really have - a spring. We have maybe 2 weeks of it, and straight to the summer.

The image I had in mind was a development town, with its 50's public housing row-buildings, and the vast briars between them (they are green in the winter, and then dry as soon as the summer starts).
It also reminded me of war, and of the missiles landing on one of these towns, Sderot.

Here's the sketch.

And the B&W, done with ink & pen. By that time I decided to have no clouds.
The silkscreen ought to be in 2 colors, so I made trials to check which 2 colors would give the impression I wanted.
The final design.
I decided to avoid the rockets and was connotation, as I thought that the row-buildings are strong enough as is, and as the composition looked better.

It won 2nd place.
