For this project, I was tasked with redesigning and re-presenting certain elements from the TIME LIFE encyclopedias. We randomly picked a single book, and I got Health & Disease to work with. While reading through this book, I found certain topics more interesting and certain charts and graphs more visually intriguing than others. 

The first thing that stood out to me was the graph that shows the average lifespan through different periods of time from the earliest humans to today. However, I noticed that in the illustration of the people there were only men, so I decided to add women for different periods. I redid the illustration in my own style, after some research I found a model with the fashion from each time period and drew them while simultaneously adding some color. I also decided I wanted to tackle the brain wave chart and the topic of epilepsy to create an editorial design. One major element of this redesign was animating one of the infographics so I decided to animate the brain wave chart. I wanted it to look like it was drawing out as if the test was being conducted in the present moment. Using Procreate I created this gif illustrating what happens in the brain normally as well as during the 3 different kinds of seizures, psychomotor, petit mal, and grand mal. 

The book Health & Disease had an icon on the back cover. One part of this project was to make a series of icons inspired by the one provided by the book. The man with the 3 circles, representing the three main cavities in the body, surrounded by "factors that could impact one's health" was the icon that I was tasked to match. I decided to keep the same system of a main figure or symbol in the middle, and surround them with similar blocks. I made four more icons in this system and style. I did change one thing from original icon, which was the color system. I wanted these icons to match my infographics and overall project, so I decided to change the colors from the original browns and blues to the pink, green, yellow and orange from my project.
