ZEN : Weaving techniques

MOOD BOARD
Zen is a concept of a "meditative state" under the wing of Japanese Buddhism originating from the Mahayana Sect of Buddhism.
The Etymology of the term "Zen" finds roots in the Chinese word "Chán" derived from the Sanskrit word "Dhyāna" or meditation.

Often used as a synonym for tranquility, inner peace, acceptance, satisfaction, bliss, whole and balanced - these words represent the outer results achieved from meditative practices.

I have explored Zen as a concept with weaving as a medium.
I have used Linen warp, a natural bast fibre derived from Flax and cotton weft. I have explored symbolic Zen forms and techniques of weaving such as: Double Cloth principle, Cut Shuttle Weaving, Extra-warp weaving and Cut-pile techniques.
Stitched double cloth
Two layered double cloth (unstitched)
Wadded and interchanged double cloth
Cut-shuttle / Dhurrie weaving technique
Extra warp motif weaving
Cut pile weaving with acrylic wool
Overall I had a great time creating the Zen weaving project. Weaving projects have their ups and downs. Often reflect the makers state of mind or what they desire - just as all art does.
