Hungry Ghost Festival in Kuching

This series of photos took place during the Hungry Ghost Festival in Kuching, Malysian Borneo. I used a selection of Fuji X-series cameras to stay below the radar as there were a lot of press photographers present that meant I wasn't drawing any attention.

The Hungry Ghost Festival is where people pay respects to the dead by burning ghost money. It was a truly amazing experience to be in amongst this important festival.

As the festival came to a conclusion the mood suddenly went tense and all of a sudden monks were throwing out raffle tickets for baskets of prizes that were given as gifts for the ceremony. Grown men were tustling and fighting over these little pieces of paper. I wanted to try and capture the desperation to catch a ticket once I realised amongst the chaos what was going on.
