threshold (noun): a point of entry or beginning
Abruzzo is a region in central Italy: it is a land full of small, ancient villages that lie on the top of hills and mountains (the Dutch artist Escher lived for some years in these lands and took inspiration for his famous surrealist artworks). I learned that part of the story of these old and sometimes forgotten small towns is written on the doors of their oldest buildings.
