Kassona - chest
Kassona has its roots in the Italian word ‘cassone’, meaning a rich Italian type of chest intended for showing, that parents used to give to the bride on her wedding day.
Kassona was conceived as an object that is meant to keep secrets, mythical treasure or treasure belonging to Grandma. Leaning on the tradition of cherishing, it is a product of quality handicraft that will last and develop emotional connections with its owners, eventually becoming a part of family heirloom.
It was constructed out of walnut, material traditionally used for chest-making, in a manner close to traditional one, by an experienced, family-owned company.
It is a modern piece of furniture based on tradition, and it gained a different form accordingly, one adjusted to the modern times by the manner of use. Namely, partitions and divisions within Kassona combine the form of a chest and a wardrobe, which facilitates users’ approach to things kept in it.
Kassona has been imagined as a piece of furniture that will be rich in objects of great emotional value for the owner, which is why it possesses the inner (hidden) and outer (exposed) area. If we want to connect the inner and the outer, to take the inner out, here we may do so thanks to the flexibility of positions of individual chest segments. They close or open the storage space in the central part of the chest. The experience of revealing is deepened and heightened thanks to the lids placed on the upper side of each segment.
Its form is simple and timeless. It neither suffers from trends, nor grows old, which is why it is both durable and sustainable. What will make Kassona ‘adjusted’ to its user, are the years of use that will leave their mark on the material. It has been determined that, as users, we tend to react positively to aging of certain types of materials. This is the so-called graceful aging of natural materials like wood, stone or leather; their origin will be visible no matter what shape the material takes.
