Emphasis in Wisconsin Dells

Using an image of the cliffs in the Wisconsin Dells, I was able to draw shapes from the rock formations and combine them into this fragmented illustration. I decided to use different values of green because they represent the wildlife and trees all around the canyon and a blue background to represent the river it is on the edge on.
I wanted to create a composition inspired by the Wisconsin Dells canyon because growing up, my family and I would always go on vacations here. Some of my best memories of my childhood were of going on the boat tours of the cliffs and just relaxing on the river so being able to recreate this in an art piece was a fun reminder to not take life so seriously and always find time in your day to relax and know that everything is going to be ok.
What worked well when creating this piece was combining the shapes into a fragmented art piece. Everything fit very well together and ended up being able to look cohesive while each shape also looks independent on their own. If I were able to go back in time to change an aspect of this creative process, I would change how my image printed and not have a border around the artwork. I would do this because I feel it is distracting to the piece and takes away from it in a small way because the color is different than that of the art work itself.
These are process shots of combing and transforming the shapes from the drawings of the Wisconsin Dells cliffs. As you can see, I changed the orientation of the shapes and sizes while keeping the scale proportional.
