DAPHNE AUTOMATA II is a mixed media sculpture, made of metal wire, paper, leaves, LEDs, connected to Arduino which controls the switching on and off of the lights based on touch. The LED matrix displays words taken from Ovid's "Metamorphosis, Book I" and Donna Haraway's "A Cyborg Manifesto", interlaced through the use of Markov function and OpenFrameworks. The work investigates the myth of Daphne and Apollo and proposes a modern interpretation of the myth. The cyborgian representation of Daphne's hand in flight with this interrupted metamorphosis wishes to provide a symbol for the kind of woman's experience characterised by "contradictions that do not resolve into larger wholes".
