Recent decisions, irrespective of the rationale, seem to threaten the communal harmony in India, long known for being all-embracing. Though born in a liberal Hindu household, this floor-art depicting an Islamic prayer mat is my expression of solidarity.
On the floor, the centerpiece is inspired by rumi-darwaza, Lucknow.
Calling this art 'Rumi' has another reason. Jalāl al-Dīn Rūmī's poetry speaks of love which infuses the world and they transcend the divides among men.
The painting faces the qibla with the wall-art symbolizing the mihrab

ekam sad-vipra bahudha vadanti
