"Renegade Spray"
The Renegade makes another appearance as a recurring motif in this complex spray paint composition.
The Craft
This 14"x11" piece was created with multiple layers of spray paint in tandem with multiple-sized Renegade stencils and acrylic paint.

I used three different spray paint colors in this composition: matte black, metallic silver, and matte white.

The first two layers were a generous coat of matte black with stencils arranged asymmetrically (and taped in place to avoid being blown out of place by the spray can's air flow). After drying, the stencils were removed.

When spray paint cans release air without a full flow, the paint emerges as a spatter -- I applied some of this black spatter to the Renegade spaces.

After drying, I re-applied the stencils in the same places with a slight rotation. I sprayed two rows of metallic silver, let dry, and removed the stencils.

With the white spray paint, I sprayed in three concentrated points and applied a white spatter over the entire composition.

Finally, I used acrylic paint to fill the centers of these white points with planet-like objects (featuring rings and gaseous swirls) and dotted them with white.
Display
This piece was created for my Two-Dimensional Design class during the Fall 2019 semester at Anne Arundel Community College.

It was selected to be part of a featured student work display in the Visual Arts & Humanities building by my teacher, Christopher Mona.

The Assignment
The goal of the assignment was to incorporate recurring motifs in an asymmetrically-arranged way with the use of stencils. I chose to use my logo as a featured motif because of its visually-interesting look.

After experimenting with the spray cans and discovering the spatter effect, I was inspired to give the piece a galactic treatment, and ended up with a brilliant composition.
