The accumulation of mismanaged plastic waste in seas and oceans negatively affects marine wildlife. Based on the works of Jambeck, Schmidt et al. (2015, 2017), these infographics depict global trends in waste generation by coastal populations in 2010, with part 1 (blue backgrounds) focusing on mismanaged plastics and part 2 (gold backgrounds) showing a broader picture with several waste categories as well as the most polluted rivers.
