Families in Touch
Undergraduate Thesis
Families in Touch is designed to encourage communication and social engagement among older adults.  It looks to address the difficulties they experience by using existing communication devices.  I wanted to create a device that enables older adults to use present communications technology in a very simplified manner to reconnect with their families and friends.   With the help of University of Toronto's TAGlab team, I was able to develop my undergraduate thesis into a working prototype with approved field deployment.

When the frame is touched, the person in the photo receives an email from the owner of the frame.  At the discretion of the email recipient, they are able to to either upload or record a video message for the frame owner.  The video is transmitted to the frame and notifies the owner by lighting up.  The lights invites the owner to touch the frame again and the touch triggers the video playback.  The message sender receives a confirmation when their video message has been seen.
