FATHER'S TOOLS
"FATHER’S TOOLS" is a collection of goods inspired by a furniture craftsman’s tools.

My father was a furniture craftsman who worked for a renowned furniture maker for over 40 years. In addition to crafting furniture, he repaired furniture for many public figures including members of the Japanese Imperial Family. After retiring, he was asked to pass on his skills in classes specially organized by his former company.

Throughout his life, he loved his work, even making furniture for family members during his holidays. Both he and his work were much loved.

The beautiful patina of scratches and dents which adorn the surface of his tools bears testimony to a lifetime of use in the hands of master craftsman. Although I had always admired them, he never let anyone use or even touch his tools. As a graphic designer, I understand that completely because I also don’t like anyone to use my own tools.

Although none of my family followed in my father's footsteps, when I finally held his tools in my own hands, I felt a connection in our different, but equally creative professions. It inspired me to create this range of products which juxtaposes the ragged contours of my father's tools with the smooth lines of my range of stylish mugs, cool badges and soft towels.

Just as my father used his tools to add beauty to people’s lives through his work, I hope that my designs will add to the beauty of your life.
