Zeke The Extinguisher 2020

Synopsis

“Zeke the Extinguisher" is a project dedicated to bringing to light, the issue of inappropriate uses of emergency services. I aim to create a character that secondary school students will find both admirable and relatable in order to get them invested in the narrative. The narrative will be teased in the form of a trailer for an animated series in which Zeke attends to multiple non-emergency cases which takes a toll on his body when he uses his powers unnecessarily for extended periods. And so, to get the students to care about Zeke's wellbeing and fate in the story, I decided to create an instagram account for him to show off Zeke's personality and daily life.

So who is Zeke?

Zeke, full name Adam Ezekiel, is a 21 year old Singaporean male who just signed on to SCDF after completing his national service. He recently got posted to their newly formed unit created specifically for superpowered individuals. The "Singapore Special Rescue Division" aka the "SSRD". He hopes to put his pyrokinetic powers to good use especially in the field of fire safety and rescue. However, he will soon come to realise that his job is not all that it's cracked up to be.

Who is Ally?

Ally, whose full name is Allyssia Voss, is Zeke's elder sister and the one that practically raised and took care of him from young. She's also a superpowered individual who works as both a doctor and a supermodel. Smart and beautiful, she is deeply respected and admired by Zeke who has come to rely on her for support when he pushes himself too hard at work.

An Interactive Experience

So for the artist impression, I wanted to create a space where students can get to know Zeke on a more personal level. I wanted to move away from the typical booths and exhibition spaces and considered how SCDF could use this to reach out to as many schools as possible. And so, I got inspired by the old mobile library that used to visit primary and secondary schools to promote reading to students. I decided to turn the interior space of the trailer on the back of the truck into a mock-up of Zeke's room in the fire station with pieces of information and physical objects that students can interact with.

I also had the idea to create something to give more in-depth descriptions of the objects and information on display in the space. And so I thought of an app or a function that utilises the phone camera that makes Zeke himself pop-up and explain what certain objects are.
