How can we reconcile traditional culture with pop culture in the Chinese cultural context, and revive traditions in a sense that a new identity for the 'old', the 'outdated', the 'left-overs' is created? Old vs. New, Outdated vs. Fashion, Tradition vs. Pop...Inspired by Oriental Mysticism, 80-90s Chinese cartoons and the “Guochao” (国潮Chinese Pop) movement, this project searches for a new kind of style that blends seemingly conflicting elements into one coherent composition.
