ROOK
A pendant ergonomically designed to house a pepper spray, reducing reaction time and promoting self-defense.
This project was kindled with the idea of providing security and a sense of security to innocent people. Pepper sprays are amazing defense devices. They deter perpetrators, do not cause permanent damage and buy time. I set out to land on a simpler way to equip people with pepper sprays and reduce the hassle.
Pepper sprays in the market are compact but need to be carried in a pocket or baggage or plainly uncomfortable. This pendant snaps off the necklace magnetically providing instant protection. It is made with heavy consideration of optimizing the user experience and ergonomics.
Affordances-The rubberized curved top facilitates grip and instigates the user to unhook the cap making the thumb naturally rest on the trigger.
Signifiers-The yellow trigger is jarring and signifies disengagement.
Feedback-The magnetic cap provides instant feedback.
Mapping-The unhooking mechanism and the trigger are closely mapped, creating a fluid experience.
Minimally designed mechanism considering manufacturability. Canister holds 11cc of capsaicin spray while keeping the pendant compact.
