MILWAUKEE
Job-Site Radio Redesign
Academic project where we were asked to redesign the current Milwaukee cordless job-site radio (see picture below). The redesign was mostly focused on the interface (button layout and task operations) and the ergonomics. By doing so, I had to keep the brand image intact by analyzing what makes a Milwaukee product what it is and applying it to the new design.
Storage

Just above the display is the release for the to door, which is spring loaded and open automatically. Slide the release to the right to open the door.

The phone storage can now lodge some of the biggest phones on the market and the anti-slip rubber mat help to keep the device in place. The storage also have a USB port to charge devices and a AUX port to play media instead of using bluethoot. It is also where the time is adjusted on the clock.

Interface

The new radio features a brand new simplified interface and display for easier understanding. The schematic of the new radio is shown below. The use of larger and more spaced buttons are very beneficial when using the radio with large gloves.
Testing

To test the new ergonomics, a model made of MDF and 3D printed parts was constructed. A test protocol then helped find some ergonomic and display elements to improve in the final version.
Thank you for making it to the end!
