Catalyst Animated Bumper

Catalyst Animated Bumper

The Project
This is a real world project developed in partnership with the Arizona PBS and the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  In this project for GIT 314, I was tasked with making animated bumpers for the television show Catalyst using the already established branding assets.

The Process
I began with research into the Catalyst program, reading their information on the PBS website, and watching several episodes. I spent some time familiarizing myself with the current branding assets to spark some initial ideas and began developing a creative brief.

Catalyst Assets (Not My Designs)
The Creative Brief
After developing the creative brief and spending awhile brainstorming ideas through mind maps and word associations, I created a storyboard for the concept I landed on. The bumper would contain animations revolving around rain drops revealing the logo and making plants grow to incorporate their assets and mirror the impact the research they cover has. The logo then fades out in a ripple effect to reflect the way research done at ASU will eventually impact the community and world. The first storyboard was refined after peer feedback, which was then translated into an animated bumper in After Effects.
