For the documentary exhibit "Hold Capacity // Trade Route Stories, Reimagined," I was tasked early on with creating a logomark to brand the entire exhibit. With such a broad and varied body of work, and the very nature of the show in flux, I wanted to create a graphic that spoke to the major themes of the project, yet remained mysterious and amorphous.
The first instances of the design were highly abstract (left). I wanted to suggest a ship's cargo hold with vectors entering into it. Later revisions extended the line segements into flowing paths reminiscient of liquid within a vessel (right). This design was later reduced into the final graphic (below).
The graphic was then incorporated into all the visual materials used to advertise the show.
And we created stencils to spray paint the design onto print advertisements.
