Desks

Every family has their secret interior design signals in their home, these signals are betraying the family's spiritual psychology without telling a word. To me, the desks in every family are very interesting.

I once read an article about family education, the author, a Korean professor said, she always watches people’s family interior design and found a lot of families have luxurious sofa sets or Tv sets, yet they don’t have some desks or even no.  she also said there are no grand sofa sets but five desks in her family, every family member include her youngest 5-year-old daughter has their separate desk. A family with desks setting up for every family member is enriched by study and knowledge atmosphere.

We hadn’t had separate desks for our family members until Covid-19 outbreak.
Before Covid-19, we used our formal dining table to do everything: my husband used it for work, my daughter used it for crafting and drawing, I used it for partying and meeting friends. But everything changed because of Covid-19.
My husband has to remote work at home, my daughter has to do remote learning, even for me has to start college remote learning too. We had to set up our separate working area to adjust the new lifestyle.
My husband painted my daughter’s room into pink and set up a white desk for her. I set up a blue table under my bedroom window because it is quiet and full of sunshine. My husband set up two computers on our kitchen counter as an office desk. Because as being an excellent multitasker, he can handle working and cooking at the same time very well. Every day we work and study beside our desks individually and relax together. We have our own bubbles but still unite closely in our home.
From March to today, we have been working and studying at home for a long time. My husband has solved a lot of challenging problems in his work, my daughter and I are both enjoy remote learning and have improved a lot.  Life is still running very well.

When the Covid-19 arrived and we have to be locked down at home, I felt anxious and worrisome. But as time goes by, I feel more confident than before. Although we can’t go to the office or school, we are still working and studying, and nobody is stopping growing.
Yes, maybe we can’t fight the virus, at least we can live with it peacefully. We can adjust our lifestyle and set up better ourselves.

This is why I choose to document our desks during this special period. I hope to record more desks in more families in the future, because they are viewing our change and growth.
I used Fujifilm mirrorless XT20 to take these images and use the 18mm focal length. It equals to 35mm focal length for a full-frame DSLR.
I leave the first image to black and white because we don’t use this table very often now. Since everyone has a desk in our family now, this old dining table is becoming a memory for us.
I used LightRoom to do some  adjustments in image03.
Image01: Our dining table. we don't use it very often now, so I make it into black-and -white to express the memory.

Image02: My blue desk. I set it under the bedroom window because of the beautiful sunshine.
Image03: my daughter's desk. I didn't capture the best light in this room, so I have to use Lightroom to do a little adjustments to make a dreamy feeling.
Image04: My husband's desk. It isn't a desk at all, it is a kitchen counter! but my husband like here, because he can work and cook synchronously. Cool?
