The Trilogy

The book is the result of a graphic exploration of The Trilogy, a trilogy of EPs by the band Nine Inch Nails. The purpose of this project is to analyze an album element and to be able to reproduce it in Processing, thus creating three codes, one per each album, that were able to reproduce the various effects quickly and especially with a single click. The first album of the trilogy is Not The Actual Events (Halo 29). The title of the album itself that appear on the cover becomes the element of choice to be developed in code on processing. The title has a graphic treatment that produces the effect of a double overlap; the code that has been developed from this detail generates a PDF file with the page recurring text in a random position, which will be used in the upper left corner of the book. The code generates the PDF based on the number of pages of the book; the PDF switches between pages with the title of the book and transparent pages, so that within the layout, inDesign, the recurring text are in the right side pages. The code of the second album, Add Violence (Halo 31), uses image processing.  The detail for this second code was taken from the cover of the Physical Packaging, where there is a halftone image. As for all three developed codes, this one has the capability to create new files. This second code modifies selected images from specific folders, and then generates new ones with the various image treatments. In the third EP, Bad Witch (Halo 33), the reference element for the creation of the code was once again taken from the EP cover, where there are solarized images. As for the previous code, the images were uploaded to Processing and then exported with the image treatment to another folder. The texts in the book are in English, because of the ease of searching on the web. Regarding the pictures, generic NIN photos have been chosen both in concert and not.
