IDENTITY OF KECSKEMÉT

Kecskemét is the eight largest city in Hungary, an hour and a half away from the capital Budapest, located in the middle of the country. It is currently a rich city both historically and culturally, and it is home for several different cultural event all year round.

Since I couldn't find just one typical characteristic of the city to use it in the logo, I turned to the original hatchment that is currently used everywhere as the symbol of the city, and transform it in a more stylized figure. In the hatchment, there is a goat standing on three small hills, so I decided to keep just one attribute of this animal, the horns.
Without the typography, I used the horn as a gesture, but in the text it became a way of replacing the accent on the top of the letter “E”. The colour I choose to use is a typical shade of yellow that is common and popular in the houses of this region.
I designed other elements for the basic identity such as a map and some paper cups, mostly for the tourists. They can come into the city from different roads, by bus or train, so it might be difficult to know where they are from. As a solution to this problem, I imagined information points all around the city, near the most famous buildings, where the tourists can buy a map and one type of the paper cups, on which there is also a map printed with a mark that tells them the place where they are (with a little horn). In addition, the cups also have the images of famous city natives from the past (writers, composers, etc.) printed on them, which helps to understand the history of the city.  And this way the tourists can get information about the place in a more visual and simple way. The paper cups, however, would be filled with mulled wines, hot or cold teas or lemonade, depending on the season of the year and the person’s taste.
