HISTORIC TRAMWAY STATION

HISTORIC TRAMWAY STATION
competition | 3rd prize
caballito, buenos aires, argentina

How to represent the spirit of something that historically has been so important for the
city of Buenos Aires and that accompanied it in its evolution as it is the tram? How to
consolidate a block with such particular characteristics? How to respond to an urban
front with more than one hundred meters in length? How to give unity to a plot crossed
by the rails? How to do all of this without being an outsider in the city? How to achieve
this goal with a building?

The proposal that answers these questions comes directly from a well understanding
of the site. The DNA of the project is in the silhouettes of the existing sheds. The
building appeals to a sense of belonging with the historic railway architecture. It
appropriates this formal characteristic that inhabits the collective imagination.

The large folded metal roof acts as the totalizing element under which all the activities
of the building will be developed and at the same time links it with the public space of
the city. The building opens to the city and offers an invitation to visit it and to be part of
the history of Buenos Aires.
