August 2013- A group of students and recent graduates from CSU Sacramento, Interior Design Program joined forces in this creative collaboration competition. Our concept was born from the materials we were given to work with. With the monochromatic palette, the industrial carpet, metal and resin tiles, the team goal was to interpret a modernistic design. The fabric was left in smooth planes with horizontal and vertical lines. The natural appearance of the metal tiles was detailed with the brass fasteners used to create a belt that formed to the body. The carpet was cut into strips and woven as a back to the dress. The backing joined the front panels of the dress behind metal tiles that were manipulated into curved braces. We had 3.5 hours from the unveiling of the materials to complete the task before a runway show.
