I used pages from the book as my background for the butterfly collage. 

Sourcing the book to collage from can be very difficult - the journey to find the perfect 'butterfly book' took me to some interesting places... including one fantastic bookshop with a classic owner who was worried about 'putting the butterflies next to the birds incase the birds ate them'. Made my day. 

The electricity went out so I worked by candlight and with a torch tucked into my beanie. I'm quite fond of this way of working (but the novelty did ware off after a few hours).

I learnt a lot while collaging. Did you know that the Large Blue (featured here) in its caterpillar phase of its life wanders around until it encounters an ant. The ant then stroked the caterpillar into giving it a drop of liquid 'milk'. The ant carries  the caterpillar into its underground nest where it is fed on tiny ant grubs in exchange for the caterpillar's 'milk'.  Amazing!
