Promotional Item for the Comic Strip "Jane's World"
Promo poster for Paige Braddock's comic strip JANE'S WORLD featuring the LAST STARFIGHTER-inspired storyline from the past year of Jane strips. Her only two wishes were that it be '80's-ish and that it have an "epic" feel. Since the story arc is a spoof of an awesome '80s sci-fi film, I decided to do this as an homage to those excellent collage-style posters of STAR WARS, BLADE RUNNER, etc. yet keeping with the style of the original Jane art. I also modified her logo for this particular piece ... adding a retro-futuristic strike-through, and changing the thick opaque stroke that usually surrounds the logo into a soft glow of the same shape. The layout has purpose as well: the characters on the left reflect the earth-bound storyline, while the characters on the right come from the outer-space portion of the plot.
Paige is an awesome client that I met through my work for Peanuts. She is not only the creative director for Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates, but her comic strip on GoComics is in it's 10th year of syndication. (Jane, like Peanuts, originated at United Features; both are now on GoComics.) This design was originally to be the cover of her Volume 10 omnibus of JANE'S WORLD but once Paige decided to make the book also a 10th anniversary behind-the-scenes edition, I did another design to reflect that theme. (I will post that soon.) Therefore this is now a promo poster she uses at comic conventions and signings, etc. It is also available to buy as a print or a journal on her website JanesWorld.com
