Illustration - I have a name
Commonly in Nigeria, visibly Muslim women wearing the Hijab or a form of headscarf are often referred to as Alhaja which a term used to refer to pilgrims to Mecca. Often times, people do not bother to learn our names like they would other people and it's often derogatorily. These illustrations express that Visibly muslim women that do not like being referred to by this term have names and we'd rather be asked our names than referred to as as anything else.
After these illustrations went up on my social media page. I got a lot of positive responses from women who resonate with the illustrations and a lot of negative responses from people that would rather keep calling us the term. Some of the negative responses are expressed below
