Apprenticeships: sharing of traditional (folk) artistic skills between a master and an apprentice who is already familiar with the genre. 

Let us introduce ourselves: We are Apprentices of  master Lydia Perez, Puerto Rican Folklore Artist from Rhode Island. Through PRIAA , We are  bringing joy in these times of Pandemic to our Latino brothers and sisters. We work in small groups due to COVID-19, but with the same passion and unity. We are a Survivors.

We want to thank my apprentice, Grisselle Lopez, and my guests Ivette Solivan, President of the “Puerto Rican Professional Association of RI”, and the members of its Board of Directors, María García (Yisne), Sandra Dávila and Bélen Flórez. The Rhode Island Pleneras is a visibility project for our women who work in leadership positions with their people. The group was formed with the intention of bringing joy and happiness to our brothers and sisters in this time of pandemic.

We would like to give a huge THANKS to: Maria Rivera, a great leader in Central Falls and candidate for Mayor’s Office; Rebecca Flores, Founder and President of the Natasha Foundation and our sister from Peru Elsa Biegun for their volunteerism and support.  We send another big (virtual) hug to our sponsor, owner of Made in Puerto Rico, Wilfred Santanas! Thank you for hosting us and delighting us with such a tasty "picaderas".

Aprendizaje: Compartir enseñanzas tradicionales entre maestro y aprendiz, quien a la vez debe de estar familiarizado con el género.

Somos Las Aprendices de nuestra maestra Lydia Perez, Artista del Folklore Puertorriqueño en Rhode Island. Traemos alegría en estos momentos de Pandemia a nuestros hermanos.  Trabajamos en corrillos pero en equipo y con la misma pasión. Somos Guerreras.

Deseo darle las Gracias a mi “apprentice” Grisselle Lopez, a mis invitados Ivette Solivan, Presidente de “Puerto Rican Professional Association of RI ” y a miembros de su Junta Directiva, María Garcia Yisne, Sandra Davila y Belén Flórez. Todas unidas hacemos un llamado a nuestros hermanos Puertorriqueños. Es hora de hacernos visible. Las Pleneras es un proyecto de visibilidad a nuestras mujer en poder llamando a ejercer su Voto. Estamos en tiempos difíciles y hay mucho por hacer.

On October 17, 2020, Lydia Pérez, founder and artistic director of PRIAA, presented Certificates of Participation to "Las Pleneras- 2020", for her outstanding performance. Our thanks to the artist Rebeca Flores for her unconditional support of this project.​​​​​​​

PRIAA makes it possible for the Plena groups in Rhode Island to acquire their Instruments by artisans attached to the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture. The full tambourines were confessed by the Craftsman, Mr. Juan Fuentes of El Taller La Plena, Loiza, Puerto Rico.
