While occupied with large sculptural projects, I took some time to explore drawing, or to be more precise, explore myself through drawing. An interesting dialogue with a fellow artist led me to oil-pastels. I had not been so fond of them until now, but it turned out to be exactly the material I needed to create this series of large drawings (size A2) on cartridge paper.
I felt the need to work quickly and on a much larger format than usually and experiment on two things that have often provided a subject for my drawing practice: portraiture and writing.
With bright red colours and big spheres as dominant elements, I included lyrics and simple words that express emotional states, in an effort to discharge my own emotional state and kill the processes that trigger a negative state of mind.
My work often involves a very personal, or quasi-personal narrative and processes of automation. I think that these drawings are very characteristic of that and express a need to embrace our humanity, a broad spectrum of feelings and characteristics, both good and bad, positive and negative.
